Summary

AI Meal Tracker (“the App”) is a private food diary that helps you log meals, track nutrition, water intake, and weight. The App stores your data on your device. We do not operate servers that collect your personal data. We do not require an account.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not operate a backend for the App. We do not collect, store, or sell:

  • Name, email, or contact details (unless you email us for support)
  • Meal logs, photos, weight entries, or nutrition data on our servers
  • Location data
  • Usage analytics or advertising identifiers
  • Payment information

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData and UserDefaults):

  • Meal logs, including optional photos and nutrition values you enter or edit
  • Water intake entries
  • Weight entries and goals
  • App settings, including calorie, protein, and water goals
  • Favorites and recent meals for Quick Add

This data stays on your device unless you choose to use features that send data to third parties, as described below.

Apple Health

If you enable “Sync with Apple Health” in Settings, the App may read and write body mass (weight) data to Apple Health on your device, subject to the Health permissions you grant. We do not receive this data. Apple Health is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Home Screen Widget

The App includes an optional home screen widget that displays summary information (such as calories remaining and latest weight) from data stored on your device. Widget data is shared between the App and widget extension via an App Group on your device only.

Camera and Photo Library

The App requests camera access when you take a meal photo or scan a barcode, and photo library access when you pick an existing image. Photos you choose for meal logging are stored locally on your device as part of your meal log.

Notifications

The App can send optional local reminders (for example, meal logging or weekly weigh-in). These notifications are scheduled on your device only. We do not use push notifications or remote servers for reminders.

Data Sent to Third Parties (Only When You Use Those Features)

When you use certain features, data is sent directly from your device to third-party services. We do not receive or store this data.

  • OpenAI — If you add an OpenAI API key in Settings and analyze a meal photo, the image is sent directly from your device to OpenAI to generate a nutrition estimate. OpenAI’s privacy policy applies: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
  • Open Food Facts — If you search foods or scan a barcode, your search query or barcode is sent to Open Food Facts to retrieve product nutrition information. Open Food Facts’ terms and privacy practices apply: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/terms-of-use

API Keys

Your OpenAI API key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. It is sent only to OpenAI when you analyze a photo. It is not sent to us.

Analytics and Tracking

We do not use analytics SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites. The App does not display advertisements.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your meal, water, and weight data remains on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App removes locally stored data. Your OpenAI API key is removed from the Keychain when you delete it in Settings or uninstall the App.

AI nutrition estimates and tracking features are for general wellness purposes only. They are not medical advice. Always verify nutrition information for allergies, medical conditions, or clinical needs.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
