Summary

AI Meal Tracker (“the App”) is a private food diary that helps you log meals, track nutrition, water intake, and weight. Your diary stays on your device and the App does not require an account or login. To analyse meal photos and to offer paid plans, the App uses a small server we operate. That server receives your meal photo only long enough to get a nutrition estimate, and keeps no photos, meal names or nutrition results. It keeps only an anonymous ID, your plan, and how many photos you analysed each day.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, or sell:

  • Name, email, phone number or other contact details (unless you email us for support)
  • Your meal logs, meal photos, weight entries, water entries or nutrition data
  • Location data
  • Usage analytics or advertising identifiers
  • Payment card or bank details (Apple handles all payments)

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData, UserDefaults and the Keychain):

  • Meal logs, including optional photos and nutrition values you enter or edit
  • Water intake entries
  • Weight entries and goals
  • App settings, including calorie, protein, and water goals
  • Favorites and recent meals for Quick Add
  • A random anonymous ID for your plan (see below), kept in your iCloud Keychain so your plan survives a reinstall

Meal Photo Analysis

When you choose “With AI” and take or pick a photo, a reduced-size copy of that photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI to estimate the foods and nutrition it shows. The estimate is returned to your device and saved only in your diary there. Our server does not store the photo or the result. For each analysis our server records the date, the AI model used and the processing cost, so it can count your daily allowance and so we can see what the service costs to run.

OpenAI processes the photo under its API terms, which say API data is not used to train its models by default. OpenAI’s privacy policy: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy. The App asks for your agreement before the first photo is sent.

Plans and Payments

The App is free to use for logging meals by barcode, search or manual entry. AI photo analysis through our server is included in optional monthly subscriptions (Plus and Pro), each with a daily number of photo analyses. Without a subscription, you can use AI photo analysis with your own OpenAI API key (see below). Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store using your Apple ID. We never see your name, email, Apple ID or payment details.

To know which plan you have, the App creates a random anonymous ID on first use and attaches it to your App Store purchases. When you subscribe, renew or restore purchases, the App sends Apple’s signed purchase record to our server, which verifies it and stores:

  • Your anonymous ID
  • The product you bought, Apple’s transaction ID, and when the current period ends
  • How many photos you analysed on each day

Apple also notifies our server directly about renewals, cancellations and refunds of these subscriptions (App Store Server Notifications). Apple’s privacy policy applies to payments: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions on your iPhone.

Our server runs on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Workers and D1). Cloudflare processes these records on our behalf.

Your Own OpenAI Key (Optional)

You can instead add your own OpenAI API key in Settings. It is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device, and photos are then sent directly from your device to OpenAI using your key, without passing through our server. Your key is never sent to us.

Apple Health

If you enable “Sync with Apple Health” in Settings, the App may read and write body mass (weight) data to Apple Health on your device, subject to the Health permissions you grant. We do not receive this data. Apple Health is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Home Screen Widget

The App includes an optional home screen widget that displays summary information (such as calories remaining and latest weight) from data stored on your device. Widget data is shared between the App and widget extension via an App Group on your device only.

Camera and Photo Library

The App requests camera access when you take a meal photo or scan a barcode, and photo library access when you pick an existing image. Photos you choose for meal logging are stored locally on your device as part of your meal log.

Notifications

The App can send optional local reminders (for example, meal logging or weekly weigh-in). These notifications are scheduled on your device only. We do not use push notifications or remote servers for reminders.

Other Third Parties

  • Open Food Facts — If you search foods or scan a barcode, your search query or barcode is sent from your device to Open Food Facts to retrieve product nutrition information. Open Food Facts’ terms and privacy practices apply: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/terms-of-use

Analytics and Tracking

We do not use analytics SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites. The App does not display advertisements.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your meal, water, and weight data remains on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App removes locally stored data.

On our server, your plan record and daily photo counts are kept while you use the App. You can delete them at any time in the App under Settings › Plan › Delete plan data. This removes your anonymous ID, plan and photo-count history from our server. Apple transaction IDs are kept, unlinked from you, only so the same purchase cannot be applied twice. Deleting your data does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID settings. You can also email us with the Support ID shown in Settings and we will delete it for you.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
